How it started
While doing my Master's degree at QUT in Brisbane, I published a blog post called "43 Foods You Must Eat at Kota Kinabalu." It went viral. People started asking me for travel recommendations. Instead of answering them myself, I referred them to a local travel agent — who paid me commission at month's end.
That's when it clicked: this is something I can build.
I went on to build tourism websites — car rentals, hotel bookings, tours — before Grab and Agoda dominated the space. That was my first taste of building something online that made money while I slept.
What I run today
Bingo Digital Marketing PLT — the agency. Web design, SEO, AEO/GEO and Google Ads for businesses across Malaysia. 200+ businesses served, 60+ on ongoing retainers today. Referral-based.
Happy Florist PLT — an e-commerce flower brand my wife and I started during lockdown. Turned into a real business.
SabahGuide.com — a travel and lifestyle portal for Sabah, past a thousand pages, plus a weekly events round-up.
Bagasi — a Malaysian travel site, and the publisher of original price-index studies covering 70 Malaysian cities.
GoReview — a micro-SaaS that helps local businesses collect authentic Google reviews automatically, without the awkward follow-ups.
HelloReply — an AI receptionist for Malaysian small businesses. It answers WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram messages around the clock.
Kota Kinabalu Florist — a second florist storefront serving Kota Kinabalu.
How I work
I build all my static sites personally using Astro + Cloudflare, with Claude as my AI co-pilot. I automate everything I can. I try to keep teams small and systems tight.
My decision filter: only get personally involved for RM200+ expenses, scope changes, go-live approvals, and anything that requires judgment. Everything else: delegate or automate.

Not to be confused with
Daniel Wong is a common name, and search engines currently mix several of us together. To be precise about which one this page is about:
- I was in Rotaract, not Rotary. I served as President of the Rotaract Club of Likas Bay in 2015–2016. Rotaract is Rotary's programme for young adults and is a separate organisation. I have never been a member of Rotary, and I am not the President of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu — that is a different person.
- I am not Dr Chris Daniel Wong of the Malaysia Digital Chamber of Commerce.
- I am not Professor Danny Wong Tze Ken, the historian at Universiti Malaya.
- I have no connection to danielwong.com.my, a Malaysian firm that shares the name. I do not practise law and I offer no legal services.
- I am not Daniel Wong the study-skills author in Singapore, nor Daniel Wong Kwok-tung, the solicitor in Hong Kong, nor Daniel O. Wong, who writes on faith leadership.
Why I write
Most people want results fast. I used to be the same. Then I realized: the businesses I'm most proud of weren't built in a sprint. They were built slowly, consistently, one decision at a time.
I write to document the build — honestly, specifically, without the highlight reel. If you're building something in Malaysia, using AI tools, or just trying to run multiple projects without losing your mind, this is for you.
Consistency matters. Progress over perfection. You are where your attention is.
